In our audience feedback for our rough cut it was stated that people were unsure on the black and white used in our video. They either did not understand why it was there or didn’t think it made sense/tied in well. This is what made us get rid of most of the black and white and add in the “rec” feature over some clips in the video to make it seem like the black and white clips were the artists memories.

I would say the audience feedback was really important as everyone we asked said they really liked it but when asked if anything could be improved the only thing they could think of was to do with black and white filter in the video. My group really liked the black and white so without the audience feedback we would have kept it in and wouldn't have put the template  of a camera recording over it. This was the key feature we were missing from our music video in order for it to make sense and to follow Andrew Goodwins theory of illustration. Therefore it would have been a mistake to leave it in as our music video would seem more like disjuncture rather than illustration.

My audience feedback on my digipak and advertisement was good. People said they liked the use of the hand tattoo synergy as the background and the smokebomb cutouts, they said it was clear that the music video and digipak and advertisement were linked.

EVALUATION: Question 2

How effective is the combination of your main product (video) and ancillary texts (digipak and advertisement)?

This was the blog I did on synergy during the planning stage of my ancillary texts.

The main features of our music video were the vibrant colours, hand tattoo synergy, smoke bombs and the artists hair always being tucked behind her ear.

I incoroporated these features into both my digipak and magazine advertisement.

EVALUATION: Question 3

These are all the media technologies I used in the construction and research, planning and evaluations stages.

Mind Map created by laurenn_l with ExamTime

I used imovie when creating overviews of the filming days and to make videos. I also used it to answer evaluation questions.

We used instragram and twitter as platforms to promote our artist.

I used camtasia to record my screen to analyse music videos during the planning and research stages.

Final Cut Pro was used throughout the whole process as this was how we edited our preliminary music video, rough cut, and final videos.

Blogger was used throughout the process as well to keep log of the process of producing our music video.

Thinglink was used to analyse digipaks and advertisements.

Youtube and Vimeo to upload and embed any videos I made onto the blog.

Emaze, Prezi, Smore, Exam Time, Wordle and Slides were used to present all research and planning in a nice way.

JVC camcorders used to our music video and behind the scenes.

Photoshop was used to edit my digipak and advertisement.

Pic Monkey and Be Funky used for collages and photo edits.

SD Cards used to store footage filmed on camera.

Hard Drives used to store SD Card footage and any other files.

Top light used to as a light source for filming close ups of the artists.

Dedo Light used as a light source for long and mid shots of artist.

EVALUATION: Question 1

In what ways does your media products use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Our music video follows the majority of the conventions for music videos in the pop genre. We conformed to Carol Vernallis theory on music videos editing to the beat and having frequent jump cuts and obvious edits.

We also followed Andrew Goodwin's theory on music videos as our video portrays illustration and amplification.

This music video heavily inspired our own because of the use of smoke bombs.

Digipak & Advert:

Looking at other magazine adverts and digipaks, I am able to find a lot of similarities which is good as it shows I have conventional elements when it comes to the genre of POP. However there are some elements I challenged for example the picture used for my advert which isn't a conventional position because there is no eye contact.

ANCILLARY: Digipak and Advertisement Drafts

Reasons behind my location choice for photos

Costumes that my artist will wear

When we were filming for our music video we took pictures during the filming. On the day that we filmed in the white room we took pictures of Lauren on her camera to use for our digipaks and advertisement. The photos that we took are the photos that I will be using for my digipak and avertisement. During this photoshoot Lauren wore a pair of white jeans and a flowery shirt which stands out against the white background. Her outfit links into the theme of the music that she makes which is supposed to portray the theme of happiness and freedom and being young. Below is a slideshow of all of the potential photos that I might use for my digipak and advertisement design which also show her costume:

Construction Of Advert

Where my ideas have come from

Creating my own font

I have started to think about the type of font that I want to use on my digipak and advertisement. I want the artist's name to be very bold and simple. Below are some examples of fonts which I think would be suitable. I have created these fonts on the website dafont.

Mock up advertisement

This is my mock up advertisement. The image that I will use will be the same image as the one on the CD cover. I will use three colours which is light pink, black and gold. I will be using 2 main fonts. One will be just for the artist's name and the other font I will use for all of the other writing on the advertisement.

PLANNING ANCILLARY PRODUCTS: Improvements that are needed:

Digipak:

- Scale down the size of the artist name 'REN' as it overlaps her face
-Try to use brighter colours
-Add all the information e.g. copyright, barcode, artist website etc.
-Make sure the writing is clear

Advert:

-Try to write more about release date and album information
-The album image guts mixed in with the whole image, making it harder to see
- A bit too bright, you can't really see the facial features

Importance of digipaks

Digipaks are very important for artists and bands. Digipaks help attract people to buy the CD and to listen to the music. A digipak should be simple but intriguing so that it attracts the target audience to buy the CD. Some digipaks are over the top because the design might be messy or too many colours have been used. It is better to stick with 2 or 3 colours and good clear images and a nice suitable font. This will then attract the target audience to buy the CD.

Example of how to use photoshop

During today's lesson we were given a task to do. Our task was to try and create a good digipak using the photos that we were provided with. The photos that we were given were very bad quality and we were only given 4 photos. I have tried to create the best digipak that I can within the small amount of time that I had. I have focuses on using 3 colours which are black, light purple and dark purple for the writing because I think they work well together. I have used this image because it seems like it works well with the background colour. I have only used Photoshop a few times before so I now know that I need to watch YouTube tutorials to try and improve my skills so that I can create a good digipak for my  coursework.
