Draft digipak

Here is a draft digipak that I created on Photoshop. I edited the photos on an iPhone photo editing app called VSCO cam. I really like the filter on the photos and I think that it works well with the white writing. As this is only the first draft it is not very professional looking but soon we will have to create a professional looking digipak on which I will spend a lot of time on to make it look very good.

PRODUCTION: Evaluation Question 4 Notes

Mind Map created by laurenn_l with ExamTime

Throughout the process of blogging have a aimed to use a variety of media technologies. Above you can see which ones I used. I found that some worked better for certain blog posts than others.

For example:
  • Blog posts on production, were mostly pictures worked better with using photo technologies like kizoa and photosnack where short captions could also be added.
  • For short notes and bullet points during planning that website notes was used and for notes on evaluation questions.
  • When researching presentation technologies were the best because of the mass amounts of detailed information used.
  • For analysis and evaluation blog posts I liked to make videos. I used camtasia for this to record my screen and edit.

Editing day 7

PRODUCTION: Changes From Rough Cut Feedback

There are some things that we had to cut out, and some things we added into our music video, so it looks much more unique and versatile. We had to take of the black and white filters as there was no meaning behind it, and would have been able to evaluate. We had to swap some shots around, and add extra footage of the artist.

Things we had to take out

We had to take out the Rec frame because we that clip was of the artist and her friend taking a selfie, so having a recurring sign doesn't explain the selfie. Which is why we took it out.

We had to take out the black and white filter as it was there for no reason.

This scene changes form colour to black and white, from the rough cut feedback, the etcher felt that the black and white changed the mood, so we took it out, and it does look better without it.

We had to cut some of the footage as the lip syncing wasn't right.

We also had to take out the black and white filter, because it doesn't help show the energetic and fun side of our video.

Shots we added in, and replaced with

We felt that we wanted to show the artists without singing, so we added extra shots in the middle of the song.

This was also another clip we added, we used this one and the one above- as they jump cut against each other in slow motion. This really works well in terms of editing to the beat.

If you look at the second picture (on the shots we changed) We felt that that footage was too long, so we added this shot ^ of our artists on the tree. It looks much better than it did in the rough cut.

Towards the middle of the music video, there's a point when the camera pans up to the sky- it was a very lengthy footage of the sky, so we cut it down, and added the red and blue smoke bombs on top of it, we also added this footage ^ straight after  it.

Rough Cut Feedback

Today we received feedback from our teacher Dan, most of the feedback was praise. All in all he said the video was really good however there was helpful criticism for example :
* Its colourful and bright - This is good as it keeps the audience watching.
* Wide range of settings and locations - This keeps it interesting, always keeping the audience on their toes as there is always a next exciting location and setting.
* There is loads of footage used - Again It doesn't make the video boring and allows the audience to explore different scenes along with the music video
* Our video conveys an effective mood - This allows the audience to feel the emotion we wanted to put across, freedom and happiness which we did. By being successful the audience are able to experience the mood.
* The Slow motion looks professional
* First use of slow motion is to quick - As we have a longer seen of the carousel we though it would be a good idea to use a short clip at the front and a longer one later however if the clip is to fast the audience are not able to take in what's happening on screen and may loose track.
* Black and white has no meaning to it - Which means when it comes evaluating there will not be a lot to say. Also the audience automatically drop from the fun playful mood to a more serious one as the colour changes.
* Couple base tracks weren't as strong - When static and not moving. This can mean the audience can get bored easily and may not pay attention to the rest of the video.

Personal Notes For Improvements

Since I wasn't in for the last editing session for the rough cut I wasn't able to see the finished product. However now its uploaded on to the blog I have some ideas of how we could improve it further.

Rough Cut 1 :
  • The record effect seems out of place when on every time their friends are seen as its a very few times we see them so it pops out at the randomness times. The fact there's no special effects to make it look like a home video adds to my point as the lighting is the same as the rest of the video so it adds no extra meaning.
  • The recording button is mostly used for videos and the first time we see it were taking a picture.
  • The carousel shot is a bit too short but it changes to the beat which is a good thing.
  • The scenes with the friends on the carousel should maybe be spread throughout the video as it only occurs twice.
  • The use of black and white looks irrelevant as it has no meaning and is shown at random times so we would have to think of another way to incorporate it with a good explanation why.
  • The first scene we see with a friends shouldn't be n black an white as the friends is the joy and the theme of having fun.
  • The first time we see the red smoke we should see more of the artist.
  • Some scenes are out of sync with the music.
  • As the artist pushes the camera upwards to the sky it takes to long before we see the fade in of the cloud of smoke.
  • We need to see more close ups in the beginning rather than the end.
  • We also need to see more of the synergy.
  • replace the first scene of the green smoke scenes as the artist looks put off guard
  • The sparks shouldn't be on top of the carousel scene as it will distract the audience from the importance of the carousel and with the record effect it looks like there's to much going on in one scene.
The second rough cut is similar so I wont rewrite the list but just talk about the new problems we can improve.

Rough Cut 2 :
  • The camera sound effect delays the track.
  • The scene where the artist walks into the shot should be incorporated into the first rough cut. This would solve the problem where there is a long gap between her hitting the camera upwards and her getting surrounded by the smoke.

PRODUCTION: Group discussion- second day of editing.

On the second day of editing, we has many disagreements, as to what will be shown on are music video. We printed out the lyrics, and labelled the scenes and shots that we wanted to be on that verse/ chorus.

Reflection on filming

I think overall filming was very successful. As a group we worked well together because we always listened to one another. Before every filming day we planned all of the shots that we wanted to film and what each of us will be doing on the day. As Lauren was the main singer she was not able to film or help with behind the scenes so myself, Ashley and Madihah tried to change our positions in the group every day. On some days I would be the one that filmed and on others it would be Ashley or Madihah. On the days that I was not the one filming then I would be either taking behind the scene photos or holding the light. After every single filming day Madihah would take home the footage to watch what we had filmed. Then she would message us in our group chat to tell us how the footage looks and what types of shots we need to film on the next day.

Example 1: Here is a photo of when we filmed at Indian Lounge. At this certain location I was filming. I filmed a range of different shots which included long shots, medium shots and close ups. Ashley was taking behind the scene photos so that we had photos to put up onto our blog afterwards.

Example 2: Here is another photo of when we filmed at Kyoto Gardens. I was the person filming at this location while Madihah took behind the scene photos and Ashley had the duty of looking after all of our stuff.

Example 3: Here is another example. As you can see Madihah is the person filming while I took behind the scene photos. We felt like it was good that we swapped positions in the group because it made us all improve on our filming and recording skills.

PRODUCTION: Evidence of Filming day 6

Today we went to South bank to re film some of our scenes. We re filmed our scenes in front of the graffiti wall. But we also decided to film an extra shot on the carousel. We thought this would look very good in our music video as an extra shot in-between the singing.
