RESEARCH: The function of a music video!

The Function of a music video

A music video can be described as a videotaped performance of a recorded popular song, usually accompanied by dancing and visual images representing the lyrics.

The function of a music video is to promote the song that accompanies the video. Music video’s usually do this through telling a story or showing the artist singing the lyrics. The story will either portray the lyrics or have little or no relation to the lyrics, both of which help to promote the song by making the video memorable to the audience.

A music video that is a good example of this is The Kooks- Around Town where the visual images shown are in relation to the lyrics of the song.

Or the artist may be performing the song. This may be live or lip synced.
